Mr Lachenicht has 25 years’ experience in mining geomechanics ranging from consulting, research projects, studies to mine operational experience. Over the course of his experience, positions held include manager, senior geotechnical engineer, geotechnical superintendent and principal geotechnical engineer roles with associated levels of responsibility.
Lahars represent natural phenomena that can generate severe damage in densely populated urban areas. The evaluation of pressures generated by these mass flows on constructions (buildings, infrastructure…) is crucial for civil protection and assessment of the structures’ vulnerability. The existing tools developed to model the spread of flows at large scale in densely populated urban areas remain inaccurate in the estimation of mechanical efforts.
David is a principal geotechnical engineer with more than 20 years of operations and consulting experience in the mining and civil industries. Since joining Itasca in 2007, David has performed numerical back analyses and forward analyses for numerous open pit and underground mining operations around the world using Itasca software. David has also performed numerical analyses for several surface and underground civil infrastructure projects.
The Itasca Constitutive Model for Advanced Strain Softening (IMASS) has been developed to represent the rock mass response to excavation induced stress changes.IMASS uniquely utilizes two softening (or residual) yield envelopes to represent the damage around an excavation, slope, or caving process by accounting for the progressive failure and disintegration of the rock mass from intact, jointed, and/or veined rock to a disaggregated, bulked material.
IMASS is available as an optional constitutive model for use in both FLAC3D and 3DEC (version 7.0 or latter) and is and is sold as a monthly or annual lease.
