- FLAC3D An improvement to zone stiffness stability calculations has been made.
- This results in zones converging to a static solution in roughly 40% of the steps required previously.
- The stable dynamic timestep is now 2.6 times larger than it was before.
- Note that other features in the model (structural elements, Rayleigh damping, etc) may modify these values.
- A similar improvement to structural element stability has been made.
- This is not as consistent. You will see bigger improvements in static than dynamic.
- 2D elements (shells, liners, geogrids) will see a bigger improvement than 1D (beams, cables, piles).
- No change was made to link stiffnesses, so if those were dominating convergence or timestep no improvement will be seen.
- If the limiting factor was the stiffness in a cable element aligned with the X, Y, or Z axis then a performance decrease could occur.
