Software Training Courses Offered in Toronto This Fall
FLAC/FLAC3D Combined Course Offering
This September, a combined FLAC/FLAC3D course will be offered in Toronto for the first time. This will be a four-day introductory level course covering the basics of 2D and 3D geomechanical analyses. Practical applications in mining and civil engineering will be covered including topics such as:
- Constitutive models;
- Structural support;
- Groundwater and settlement;
- Dynamic analysis and liquefaction;
- Scripting in FLAC and FLAC3D; and
- Advanced model building and meshing with Rhino/KUBRIX.
In addition, breakout sessions will be provided throughout the course for FLAC and FLAC3D users to separate and practice the recommended modeling procedures by performing practical exercises with each software program.
Primary instructors will be Dr. Ed Dzik (FLAC3D) and Dr. Zorica Radakovic-Guzina (FLAC) from Itasca Consulting Group Inc.’s office in Minneapolis. Both instructors have more than 10 years of experience teaching courses and using the software in consulting projects. Assistant instructors will be Dr. Jim Hazzard and Dr. Tatyana Katsaga who are based in Toronto and have worked for Itasca for more than four years.
The course will be held at the Hotel Novotel Toronto Centre. This is located on the Esplanade downtown Toronto and is a few minutes’ walk from Union Station.
